Adam J. Bruno is a founding partner of Bay State IP and a seasoned patent attorney with close to twenty years of experience in all areas of intellectual property law, including patents, trademarks, and copyrights. His primary practice focuses on the preparation, filing, and prosecution of U.S. patent and trademark applications and providing client counseling for both foreign and domestic clients. With a client-centered approach, he works closely with inventors and businesses to navigate the complexities of intellectual property law and secure strong protections for their innovations and brands.
Adam has extensive experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications, including conducting patentability searches, drafting and filing Utility, Design, National Stage and PCT applications, along with responding to office actions and conducting examiner interviews. Additionally, Adam has experience in post-grant proceedings and opinion work, along with providing litigation support for the enforcement and defense of client’s intellectual property. Adam works across a wide range of industries, helping clients protect inventions in fields such as technology, engineering, life sciences, and consumer products.
Additionally, Adam is skilled in all aspects of trademark law, from conducting trademark searches to preparing and filing applications for federal registration. He helps clients protect their brand identities, ensuring exclusive rights to names, logos, and slogans in the U.S. and beyond.
Before founding Bay State IP, Adam worked at a boutique intellectual property law firm in Boston, MA, where he played a key role in managing the firm’s U.S. and foreign patent and trademark prosecution docket. His experience in both large-scale and smaller-scale client portfolios has given him a deep understanding of the diverse needs of businesses and innovators at every stage of development.
Adam has been selected as Massachusetts Rising Star from 2014 to 2020 by Super Lawyers. Mr. Bruno is admitted to practice in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Furthermore, Mr. Bruno belongs to a variety of associations, including the Boston IP American Inn of Court, the Boston Patent Law Association, the American Intellectual Property Law Association, the American Bar Association (Section on Intellectual Property) and the Phi Delta Phi Legal Fraternity.
Adam holds a Juris Doctor from Suffolk University Law School, a Master’s degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology from Tufts University, and a Bachelor’s degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology from Vanderbilt University. His technical background in molecular biology allows him to provide unparalleled insight into complex patent matters in the life sciences and related fields.
He is admitted to practice law in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, before the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts, and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
